Training for hills again with achilles issues... [Re: ]
      #874 - 05/08/07 12:46 PM

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone who is familiar with running trails and hills has any insight for getting the Achilles back into shape.

I ran the Mount Diablo 8K a few years ago and remember it being quite hilly. And since I started having these nagging achilles problems after I run, I am real leary about getting back into the hills and trails.

I really enjoyed them, but am not sure how to get back into it. Any ideas out there? Right now I am just keeping it slow and flat, and that seems to work. But as soon as there are any inclines or I start speeding up, I can feel it right in the achilles. But then it goes away after a while.

Danny I dont know too much about achilles issues except that stretching after a run I think really helps. Thats my 2 cents worth, I hope some trail runners speak up

After running the "Race for the Cure" 5K on Saturday I decided to stop by the local running store (after taking a shower of course )and mentioned to them my situation. I made sure to wear my running shoes... and they right away noticed that I stand and wear on the outer edge of my shoes. So they put me into some 'superfeet' to control my landing on my outer foot edge, and I immediately noticed a difference.

I wore those 'superfeet' the next day for my cycle/run combo training, and again last night for 2.5+ mile run, and I didn't have any problems. Actually felt like my old self running. Felt great. So I hope this lasts. I will have to make sure that I still take it easy though, just incase.

But as of right now... I am stoked!!
