Today Brian Burnham from Cirque Productions and MMC partner, along with one other leader and 7 youth, dipped their back tires in the Atlantic Ocean in Aberdeen Maryland, began biking and wont stop until their front tires touch the Pacific Ocean in Washington, a 3700 mile trek that follows the Lewis & Clark Northern Tier. Here is the story from the Raleigh News & Observer..
Quote:
Trek to benefit bikers as well as cancer center
CHAPEL HILL - He was 9 years old when he heard Mommy had something in her chest and that she could die.
But she didn't. Six years later, David Hare, now 15, understands what it took for his mom to survive breast cancer. He knows she couldn't have done it alone. So on Sunday, David will hit the road for the WaBu Cycle Tour. The 10-week cross-country ride will raise money for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and awareness of the importance of early detection. Wabu stands for "Washington or Bust."

We hope to chronicle as much of the WABU cycle tour as we can here. This picture represents most of their journey, they started in Aberdeen, MD instead. See postings below to read through their journeys as we receive udpates.

Here is a better picture of the team, I think we are only missing one rider (who took the picture?).

The Wabu's made it to Fawn Grove, Gettysburg, and Mercersburg on their first three days, respectively. These are all in PA.

June 13, 2007: The Wabus made it to Gettysburg, PA yesterday. Kit reports that there were four falls (he, Angelo, Adams, and Matt) but no injuries. Daniel's bike messed up but was "miraculously" fixed. They had a thunderstorm and rain but all seem happy!
